If original part is from sub supplier, the sub supplier must pass Audit and get TS16949 certification ( also called IATF 16949). All parts in car parts chain must provide PPAP files to car manufacturer or appointed cooperator and get approved documents.

In order to manage car parts efficiently, car factory use a unique number to distinguish each part for every car model. That Unique number is OE number, please see an example of OE number in the picture at left side. In the picture, the VolksWagen OE number is 8E0919279. Valeo part number is 306082.
Each OE Number links to unique car part, but one car part may be mounted on different car model, so it is possible that one car part has several different OE numbers.
